September   6 “Close-up and Macro Nature Photography” – Daniel Bridge
Covering the different types of close-up and macro shots we can take, the variety of subjects available, lighting, lenses and accessories, techniques, focus stacking, and more. Subjects ranging from insects to flowers, abstracts to animals.

“The View from the Pit” – Simon Reid.
The first half deals very much with the music part of music photography – the how and the why I got started. The second part details the photography part of music photography – equipment and techniques.

   27 Astrophotography – Dr Lilian Hobbs  
Talking about all the different types of things you can see in the night sky, from the milky way to planets, distant galaxies and even how to photograph the International Space Station as it passes overhead. Colour and composition.

A discussion on what black and white photography achieves for photographers, what makes a powerful mono image, and the range of images from genres including portraiture, landscape, street, etc

November    1 “He Shoots, He Scores” – Andrew Moss.
How to take different images of sports and action. From accessing and scouting the arena to shooting and then processing a wide range of sports. I share the inside track on sports from croquet to roller derby and chess boxing to rugby and prove you don’t have to get a press pass to take stunning images.

Been away on a great trip and brought home loads of great images? Not sure how to tell the story? Why not turn them into an AV Presentation which you can use to tell your story, share your emotions and feeling about the place, and perhaps even enter an AV Competition.

January    3 “The Prints and the Paper” – Chris Palmer.
This is not a technical talk but will make the audience aware of the personal approach I take both to my photography, and subsequent printing. “When viewing the finished print, I am guided by an underlying question…” Have I done the image justice?”

    17 ZOOM “Classic Wild Landscapes.” – David Boag
In this lecture we will look at a variety of landscapes or habitat pictures and whilst enjoying the scenery we will draw out of it various features that we can use to improve our photography. Whilst almost any camera can be used for an appealing landscape we can consider using it in a different way.

    31 “Patagonia, Landscape Photography at the End of the World” – Julian Elliot.
The trials and tribulations of working on commission in the Patagonian fjords on a cruise ship. Very often from an outsider’s point of view the life of a travel photographer looks glamorous and exciting. What is not seen is the battles against ‘Mother Nature’ when working on the job.

   27 “Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) & Multiple Exposures (ME)” – Steven Kingswell.
A look at the techniques of ICM, who the current photographers are that have the top reputation for this work in the field. It then explores my journey with this type of work.
April   3 W&CCC Non-advanced Inter-club Challenge Cup Competition

  10 “The Roof of South America – Bolivia.” by John Nathan
Bolivia with a touch of Brazil (Rio and Iguassu). We visited Lake Titicaca, trekked round Illimani and drove across the Uyuni salt flat, the biggest in the world and recently on Simon Reeve’s programme. They are so big they can be seen from space.

‘I have spent many visits to Valencia photographing the amazing Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences). This complex of stunning modern architecture is mind blowing and creates a feast for the camera’

Members note for competitions: For Projected Digital Image and Print competitions a zip file containing the images must be sent by email to the relevant Internal Competition Secretary latest at the end of the Friday before the competition. For print competitions the titles must be also notified by email to the Print Internal Competition Secretary latest at the end of the Friday before the competition, as well as a digital image corresponding to the dimensions below which will be projected for overall viewing.

PDI resolution for club competitions is max 1600px horizontal x max 1200px vertical. Image files for projection alongside your print need also to be max 1600px x max 1200px.

Meetings are held at our regular venue on Wednesday evenings commencing at 7:45pm unless otherwise stated.

The club does not meet in the summer months of June, July, and August; although meetings may be arranged at times and venues to be decided.
