Competition Rules

Internal Competition Rules

The club holds various print and projected image competitions amongst members throughout the year. All members can participate. Whilst the competitive spirit is of course amicable and leads to many fun evenings (!!), we have a comprehensive set of rules for member’s reference as published below.

The rules were updated for September 2020 here.

The rules were updated for September 2019 here.

The rules were updated for September 2018 here.

2020-2021 Season has accompanying notes here and here

For any questions related to the internal Competition Rules, please speak to the club’s
Internal Competition Secretary.

Note:
Since the August 2012 revision, members should be aware that the changes to the RPS and PAGB rules for AV now allow 3rd party content to be included to AV submissions, and we have aligned our AV rules in accordance with that. However, when now using 3rd party content in their submissions, the club felt the need to draw member’s attention that they themselves should be aware of the need to have obtained appropriate copyright clearance, and that the club cannot be held accountable in any way for any consequences of not obtaining appropriate licencing.

Members should however note that Mike Reed has a PRS licence covering use of PRS registered artists and use of their music obtained from a CD. Mike has kindly offered that members can if they wish add his name as co-author so that their submission is covered under his licence regarding copyright.

External Competition Rules

Match-an-Image Competition Rules

Occasionally the club participates in a friendly Match-an-Image competition against other local clubs. For the reference of members (i.e. this is not a formal document produced by WCCC!!) here is an example of the rules for such a competition (opens in a new tab/window):

The exact rules for a particular Match-an-Image competition may vary from the above and the club’s External Competition Secretary will have details of those.

Keith Hunt AV Competition Rules

We participate in the annual Keith Hunt AV competition organised by Woking Photographic Society. The rules are here.

The late Frank Wickenden was already a long-standing and much-loved member when I joined the club in 1990. He used to have an annual sailing holiday around Corryvreckan and he is fondly remembered for the sloping horizons which he brought back from those trips. Frank and I were both active members of St Paul’s church and it was he and I who brought the camera club here. (The club was previously housed in cramped conditions upstairs in Camberley library and, before that, in Lightwater library). If my memory serves me correctly, Frank’s widow, Peggy, came as a guest of the… Read more »

Thanks for this information Roy, I think it is very important that these recollections are passed on to newer members.

I agree with Charles. As one of the “newer” members of the club I often do not know the background behind the person who donated a cup. Many of the cups were for a specific competition, and the donator may have wanted the competiton to be run to particular rules. We need to comply with these wishes, and I am sure the longer standing members can help us with this.

If anyone has more info on each of the trophy benefactors, we can put a biography for each to the website. Alan already provided the text I used here:

Mark,
I had not told you that I had made a few small additions about the “benefactors” of the trophies. The revisions are in the latest Rules so it might be worthwhile bringing your separate section into line with it.
I shall continue to try to amplify information about past members whose names should not be forgotten.

Thanks Roy, I had no idea who Frank Wickenden was, and as others have said, it’s really good to know a bit more about the people who donated our trophies, or in whose honour they were named.

18 August – I feel we don’t need to include rules for competitions not being held, and would like to see some information on the previous members who have competitions named after them such as the Frank Wickenden. These past members obviously contributed much to the club and it is of interest to have a small piece of information about them.
