Help!!!

If you are stuck on anything photographic and think another club member may be able to help, add a reply comment to this page outlining what it is you want help with.

Other club members will drop by to this page (a prompt for others to check your question appears in the regular Recent Comments listing in the left-hand column), and all being well, someone will either reply to you here or else grab you at the next meeting.

Try to keep your questions and answers brief! Remember you can always send each other e-mails once you are in contact to help sort out specific problems.

If you are replying to someone else’s request for help, please make sure you hit the Reply link immediately below the member’s question itself.

I added a comment on last night’s judge but in trying to correct a word lost the lot! Do I start again? My marks seem to have been added, but no comment!

Nick, I think you lost the comment. Looks like it was your first comment to the site and therefore it would have come to us for moderation. Only it didn’t… and this Help one above is the one that came for moderation. That suggests that your comment related to the judge somehow got lost in your typing process before, and if you did not save it to your computer in any way you will unfortunately need type it in again. The scores are logged in a different way, and yours are all there. Thanks, and it would be great if… Read more »

I am currently running Windows 7 with Photoshop CC on my PC I have been offered by MS a free download of Windows 10 I have downloaded it a couple of times but then reverted back to 7 because of minor glitches with Photoshop CC . I have now heard that Windows 11 will soon be with us anyway. I would be interested to hear from any members who have successfully made the switch from 7 to 10.

Canon Cameras

At the end of last month Canon released a major firmware update for the 7D model, which is the one I own. Apparently, once this is installed onto your camera the process is irreversable.

Has anyone installed this update and what is your opinion?

A further comment on the resizing aspect. As Mark has stated one of the risks is the generation of artefcts that you will not have had a chance to sort out as you would have done if you inspected the mage on youur own system. The other point is that a fullsized camaera image may be file of about 5Mbytes whereas a resized image may come down to around 500Kbytes. (depending on the amount of detail). Whilst this is not too important on the odd file or two the processing time when setting up a competition of about 50 files… Read more »

My camera produces images in a 6 by 4 postcard type format .Say 5760 by 3840 pixels. In reducing that image for projection on the club projector it becomes
1400 by 933 pixels . But the projector works on 1400 by 1050 pixels ie 6by 4.5 ratio . Does the projector stretch the picture ?
If for 5760 by 3840 I simply substitute 1400 by 1050 pixels then I have changed the ratio and so changed and warped my picture !

Gerald
The projector certainly does not stretch the images and the two parameters we have (1400 and 1050 ) are just maximums we can use.
This seems to be covered by an explanation accompanying the digi entry form that is available to download. See link below.

Hope this helps.

Further to above reply, if you submit an image at 1400×933, DiCentra (the club competition software) will not make any adjustments to the image size. DiCentra will project the image centred vertically in the projector’s 1400×1050 size and we have DiCentra configured to project a black background for the remaining top and bottom pixels. Similarly if you were to enter an 3840×5760 (2:3) portrait-orientation image at 700×1050 pixels, DiCentra is set to place the image in the centre horizontally in the 1400×1050 space with black background to left and right. [ We also currently have DiCentra set to resize oversize… Read more »
